FantasyGoodeSports (2022 Pre – NFL Draft Rookie Tight Ends Assessment – From a GOODE point of view)!

By : PrettyRichie

The Obvious Studs of the group

**Trey McBride (Colorado) – He is a well rounded Talent at the Tight End position. He won the Collegiate Mackey Award for 2021 season and recognized as the best at his respective position. He possesses great size at 6’04 and 246lbs. to go along with an impressive 4.56 forty yard dash time. On film, he simply looks very Goode as a complete Tight End. There’s plays where he is observed effectively run – blocking to assist on the offensive line. That alone should keep him on the field providing him ample opportunities to produce from a fantasy point of view. Next, on tape it is clear that McBride is fast enough to create separation during route running and Tall/Wide enough to create decent mismatches against most Corner backs that will be covering him at the next level. McBride is more of a luxury – pick in this years class due, to only a hand full of NFL systems that Feature the Tight End position. However, if McBride lands in Cincinnati the sky will be his ceiling. Other Potential Landing Spots to produce Fantasy Friendly numbers to owners = NY Giants(awful landing spot, but possible), Green Bay Packers (Great Opportunity), Tennessee Titans (awful landing spot, but possible), and Indianapolis Colts (Very GOODE Opportunity).

**Greg Dulcich (UCLA) – He is almost the same size as McBride at 6’04 and 248lbs. He actually is faster at 4.52 in the forty yard dash as well over Trey. On film one will notice his effective route capabilities as he creates outstanding separation from defenders for long passing completions. He is a play – maker and will constantly move the chains at the next level. He is a good enough in-line run blocker as well. I would not be surprised if he turns out to be the top Tight End in this years draft class. His landing spot and NFL teams scheme for Tight ends will be crucial to his Fantasy output. He does make good contested catches due to his superior height and strength. He is smart as he totes the ball after making reliable catches by following his blocks, being a patient runner then exploding at the right time to maximize the yardage of the play. Potential NFL teams that could use his services = Indianapolis Colts (Matt Ryan features the Tight End and Mo – Allie Cox is merely a bridge player at the position). Green Bay Packers (Aaron Rodgers needs all the Elite Pass Catchers he can get – Tonyan simple is not the long term answer). New York Giants (Everette went to Jacksonville – and this still is a dump of an Fantasy spot due to sub par QB play).

**Jalen Wydermyer (Texas A & M) – SLEEPER FANTASY STUDDDDD – Jalen possesses the best profile from an athleticism perspective. He stands at a gigantic 6’05 weighs 255lbs and runs a very respectable 5.03 40 yard dash. He is my Number #1 Ranked FANTASY Tight end of this class. On tape he is raw and needs some polishing on run blocking and pass protection alike or he will not see the field enough to produce fantasy points for Fantasy Draft owners. Also on Film, it is very exciting and impressive to see Wydermyer with the football in his hands after making a wide open reception. His speed for such a big player is just outright astonishing as he makes smaller cornerbacks pay by delivering violent shoulder pad shots against the tackler. He resembles a Baby – Gronkowski the fashion he strides after the catch, following blocks and making the most out of what the defense reluctantly gives him. Potential landing spots that would catapult his Fantasy Value, especially in Tight End Premium Scoring Leagues are : Cincinnati (Joe Burrough needs a Tight End he can rely on – Uzomah was often injured and now has relocated to New York Jets), Tennessee – (Tannehill needs all the help he can get and Stacked boxed defenses against Derrick Henry will allow Jalen to thrive underneath) and Indianapolis (M. Ryan features moving Tight Ends). I said it, JALEN WYDERMYER if drafted to the right NFL system will be the Fantasy Football #1 Tight End for this Rookie Draft class.

**Jeremy Ruckert (Ohio St.) – On film he looks like a poor man’s Dalton Schultz (Dallas Cowboys) as he runs pretty good routes for a big guy. He stands at 6’05 and weighs 250lbs. His lackluster 4.68 forty time is apparent on tape as well. He looks very stout and a little stiff in movement but, he does display soft and large hands. He played against quality level Collegiate competition and showed decent run blocking skills as well. He could develop into a nice safety blanket for a younger QB looking to simply manage the NFL game and throw high percentage passes to move the chains at the next level. I see him being a late day 3 Draft selection at best in 2022 NFL Draft class. Potential landing spots = Carolina Panthers (Malik Willis will need a security blanket at some point in the season), Denver Broncos (Russell Wilson has Albert Okwuegbunam who is oft injured and Noah Fant was shipped to Seattle), and Minnesota Vikings (Kirk Cousins is getting Irv Smith Back, but is Smith another Logan Thomas of Washington (Injury – Prone)? Reliable hands and pass protection are always welcome to these NFL teams and Ruckert possesses both skills.

** Isaiah Likely (C. Carolina) – This Antonio Gates (Chargers) Lite Proto-Type is a little on the lighter and slower side of the elite Tight Ends of this class. He stands at 6’04 and weighs only 241lbs. He ran a 4.6 forty yard dash, which is just mediocre and considered serviceable at the NFL level at best for the position. On film, he shows decent athleticism as he jumps impressively high (10.5 feet Broad Jump) to snare passes in the endzone. Being a smaller Tight End, he can easily be confused as a Big and Lethargic Wide Receiver until he’s seen lining up on the offensive line to block. At the next level, in order for him to find prominent playing time, he’ll have to add a good 8 to 10 pounds of muscle and get his 40 time down to at least 4.55 seconds. He does appear to possess good catching ability as long as the pass is place decently enough in his catch – radius. Potential NFL landing Spots = Any NFL Team in the sweepstakes only to draft a Tight End due to them falling in their lap when on the Draft clock.

**Jelani Woods (Virginia) – He is a large bodied Athlete. He stands at 6’07 and weighs 2569lbs. He also runs decent for his large stature as he runs a 4.61 forty yard dash. On Tape, Woods displays great awareness of his positioning on the field as he utilizes his colossal frame to create enough separation to smaller cornerbacks to secure passes in crucial situations. He scored 8 tuddys (Touchdowns) in college 2021 and displays reliable hands to compliment his mismatched size. He runs strong enough to as he makes defenders at the second level flinch each time they (or he) impacts them after each catch. Woods is a sneaky Luxury pick for any NFL team looking to insure the Dominant #1 Tight End already on the roster such as, Kansas City – (Travis Kelce back – up), Las Vegas Raiders (Darren Waller back – up), Baltimore Ravens – (Mark Andrews back – up).

HONORABLE Mention (s)

*Charlie Kolar (Iowa St.) – he’ll fight to make the 53 man roster during final cuts for any NFL team

*Cade Otton (Washington) – has recently moved up NFL draft board, but also will fight for a final roster spot when all is said and done.

*Jake Ferguson (Wisconsin) – talented enough to be a day #4 selection if things go his way during NFL draft. Yes, it’ll be a dog – fight for him to make the final roster.
