Stud Selections of Day 2
**Christian Watson to the Packers at #34 overall is absolutely a Dream – Come True from both a Fantasy and Reality Perspective. Watson draft outlook catapulted after an astonishing performance at the NFL Combine this year. His situation in Green Bay with such a phenom talent in Aaron Rodgers simply could not be any better. Many Fantasy Football owners of this young stud should be excited to watch him develop at least for two more seasons with the Future Hall of Fame QB. Watson could become a complete WR with many elements to his game as a player. He will compete to be the Number #1 Rookie WR along with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave.
**Breece Hall being picked at #36 to the New York Jets is definitely a POWER Play for the Franchise. Hall is probably the most talented Back that the Franchise has ever been blessed with since Curtis Martin. Don’t get it twisted, Michael Carter is an impressive Talent in his own right but, the disparity in NFL Draft Capital between the two doesn’t leave much hope for Carter to receive the bulk of the carries barring an injury to Hall. I can see a committee approach being deployed utilizing the tandem in a similar fashion that Cleveland Browns rotate Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. For Fantasy Purposes moving forward, I view Breece Hall as the newer version of NICK CHUBB and Michael Carter as a TONY POLLARD (Cowboys). Both Running backs bring value to any fantasy manager selecting the BEST AVAILABLE PLAYER on draft boards between rounds #2 for Hall and round #5 to #7 for Michael Carter respectively.
**Kenneth Walker III goes to Seattle at pick #41 and will immediately compete for first and second down snaps vs Elijah Penny. Chris Carson is a nice talent at the running back position and may murky the snap count of the running back trio until he is injured. I don’t like to predict exactly when an NFL player is to be injured (very unprofessional in my opinion) but, history is not on Carson’s side when it pertains to being available on Sundays to tote the rock. Penny is another player that has a lengthy history of injuries that keep him off the Grid Iron. With that being said, it’s just a matter of time before Walker gets a real opportunity to grab Starting Caliber snaps in the Backfield, and when that happens I am not so sure the other two Backs will get on the field as much from that point.
**Andrew Booth selected by Minnesota Vikings at #42 was an unforseeable occurrence but, definitely provided great depth on the defensive side of the ball. For IDP purposes, many enthusiasts peg Booth as a Patrick Peterson protege. He’ll learn from a good CB core as well and develop Prime experience preparing to defend soon Hall of Famer Aaron Rodger to begin his NFL career. He is a good IDP dynasty fantasy football stash in any mid to late Start Up drafts.
**Wan’Dale Robinson going to the New York Giants at #43 was exciting for him due to the good NFL Draft Capital he received but, The Landing spot is not so exciting – at least not to me. This explosive slot Wide out provides spark to the Giants Offense, but any receivers’ spark is only as powerful as the QB passing him the ball. Danny Dimes is his quarterback…so more flickering than actual sparks are projected from this combo, especially from a Fantasy perspective. Robinson should develop in a reliable WR3 in fantasy. Giants should’ve taken Malik Willis here, in my opinion.
**John Metchie III at #44 to the Houston Texans is an okay selection. Texans are a bad team and are projected to for quite some time. Metchie will be a popular selection in rookie drafts but, not so much in Redraft leagues. Only time will tell how he figures to pan out in the Fantasy Football world. Either way, he does provide decent NFL Draft Capital and that in of itself carries value (Trade Bait). Hint, Hint, Hint!
**Tyquan Thornton at #50 overall to the Patriots was one of the least expected picks this early in the NFL draft and Fantasy community altogether. Due to his decent NFL Draft Capital, Thornton should be mentioned in both realms. My personal opinion, is he’ll be featured on special teams due to his 4.28 forty yard dash speed. I have absolutely no other opinion about Thornton as a Fantasy player at this point.
**George Pickens at #52 selected by the Steelers was sort of expected by the Fantasy consensus. He is a protype of former Starting Steelers QB Big Ben. His deep passing accuracy is a plus but, his physical durability is a weakness going to the next level. It will be interesting to see how Pickens will fare competing against Mitchell Trubisky in camp. Either way, it’s difficult to see Pickens starting enough games to be Fantasy relevant in 2022 barring an injury to Trubisky. Draft late and HOLD.
**Alec Pierce at #53 taken by the Colts is probably my third best selection in this draft. I have always been a huge fan of Pierce. Now, he has respectable NFL Draft Capital to go along with his skill set and Collegiate Body of work. Once Pierce develops a good playing relationship with Matt Ryan, It is my prediction he WILL BE THE WR#1 for the Colts by week 10 2022 with Michael Pittman complimenting him. YEAH, I SAID IT! YESSSS SIRRRR! As stated in my previous article, Pierce is an Special size/speed Athlete that can do multiple tasks exceptionally well. Matt Ryan will grow to rely on his high catch rate.
**Skyy Moore picked at #54 to the Chiefs is just as delightful as Christian Watson to the Packers is. (Maybe even better due to the Mahomes factor). It’s obvious that with the Tyreek Hill departure this off – season to Miami, Kansas City is in dire need to fill that huge void. Moore immediately should provide WR2 numbers to fantasy owners by as early as week 7 2022. He possesses outstanding speed and good enough size to become a favorite target of arguably the best signal caller in the NFL era.
**Trey McBride at #55 to the Cardinals is a sneaky good Dynasty pick, especially in Dynasty Tight End premium scoring leagues. Current Starting Tight End Zac Ertz is well known to suffer injuries throughout each season he has played. Something tells me that another year in the leagues, makes him a candidate to be sidelined for some time allowing McBride to display why he was voted the Best Tight End in the Country at the Collegiate level in 2021. Murray was observed relying considerably on the Tight End Position once Hopkins got injured last season. Hopefully, it’s a part of his game and will continue to do so, even with Hopkins now Healthy. If so, it’s only a matter of time before, McBride becomes a centerpiece in the offense to move the chains consistently for the Kyler Murray Driven offense. Dynasty Owners should target McBride in rounds 8 to 12 in start up leagues with Tight Ends heavily valued.
**James Cook to Buffalo at selection #63 is a luxury pick for the Bills in my opinion. He is a good running back with good speed and pedigree (Dalvin’s Bro). He also has decent NFL Draft Capital for Fantasy value as well. He is not projected to be a three – down Back at the next level but, does possess nice spark to the Bills offense for Real Football and decent RB4 expectations from a fantasy perspective. Many will target James earlier than should due, to his bloodline tied to Dalvin Cook. I’d target James early in the second round of Rookie Fantasy drafts and hope he falls to me in Round 8 to 11 in redraft if I deploy a zero running back early in the draft technique.
Honorable Mentions and sneaky Potential Studs analysis
**Desmond Ridder at pick # 74 (Instead of Malik Willis) by the Falcons was an absolute shocker. Don’t get me wrong, Ridder is an athletic Qb with good arm strenght, but Malik Willis was deemed by many to be the #1 ranked QB due to his legs and rushing abilities along with his arm talent. I guess the Falcons view Ridders intangibles such, leadership superior to Willis’ I personally don’t believe Ridder will beat out Mariota for the starting gig anytime soon, (But, Malik Willis could). Either way, Ridder is a fall in your lap draft at the position and then HOLD (and pray he is worth the pick).
**Defensively, Christian Harris to Texans at #75 should pan out for the Fantasy Owner that rosters him. He should start right away and produce at a consistent level (LB # 30) for IDP players due to the void at the position for Houston.
**Greg Dulcich picked #80 to Denver is an interesting pick. I am not sold on Him producing early from a Fantasy perspective because, Russell Wilson has never consistently featured/slash targeted the tight end position historically. Also, Albert O. (Thee starting Bronco Tight End) is definitely a THING. Even if Okwuegbunam gets injured, I am not so sure Dulcich will be a consistent enough Fantasy producer due to this situation.
**Defensively, Nakobe Dean to the Eagles was an absolute steal for the Franchise. He will immediately make an impact in Real life and Fantasy as he has a motor that just won’t stop until there is no one else to tackle. His pectoral injury pre – combine this season caused him to slide on NFL draft day. He will be a centerpiece of the Brotherly Love Defense for years to come and a whole lot of Love to his fantasy owners will be provided with all the tackles and sacks he will accumulate.
**Malik Willis finally taken at #86 to Titans is another steal of the draft. Willis should beat out Tannehill by week 10 this season. It was a surprise to see him fall this far in the draft. I found myselft surfing the internet during the draft to see if something drastic occurred to Malik I missed such as, an DWI, Assault or Domestic Violence incident he may have been involved pre NFL Draft. He will be a great fringe Dynasty QB1 by 2024 due to his rushing prowess and decent enough arm to keep defenses honest. I would be perplexed if Malik was unable to earn the starting role late in the season of 2022.
**Jalen Tolbert at pick #88 to the Cowboys is an interesting selection with even more interesting fantasy implications due to the many vacancies left behind from Cedric Wilson and Amari Cooper’s departures. If he balls out in camp, he can develop into a reliable WR3 with Dak Prescott flinging him the rock.
**Rachaad White at selection #91 is a lottery pick from a Redraft perspective and a Hold in Dynasty formats. Leonard Fournette is a stud with at least one more season and Giovani Bernard….Ehhh, not sure why the Buccaneers have him on the roster (He must be the locker room mascot – there is only real life value in that role). Be that as it may, Rachaad White can compete against Ke’Shawn Vaughn for eventual third down duties providing a breather for Fournette.
**Ty Davis – Price at #93 to the 49ers is merely a cherry on top pick the 49ers coaching staff. He will compete to be the a special teams player and hope to join the backfield at some point. I won’t be grabbing any shares of Price from a fantasy perspective. However, he is a must watch player to see how he performs in camp due to his unexpected NFL Draft capital.
**Matt Corral at pick #94 to the Carolina Panthers is another Steal. I was never sold on Sam Darnold as a franchise QB. Darnold will be on a very short leash this season. It won’t be long after he throws an often inaccurate pass and connects with the back of the head security guards, for the fans and GM to be chanting for Corral to provide Life to the Panther’s Offense. With Matt’s legs and ability to improvise under pressure, he will do just that. He will instantly provide fantasy points by scrambling and throwing short accurate passes that will eventually lead to 6 points in fantasy and real life altogether. He is one of my best under valued rookie QBs behind Malik Willis.
Honorable Mentions to be mentioned in Rookie Sleepers to watch
Brian Robinson, RB Commanders, David Bell, WR Browns, Jeremy Ruckert, TE Jets and Channing Tindall, LB Dolphins.
